Concerned Newfoundlanders and Labradorians,
A major battle was lost on September 17.
Since August 17 and the announcement of a new Churchill Falls deal, a tremendous campaign was waged on many fronts to explain and shine a light on the pitfalls of Premier Wakeham’s Definitive Cooperation and Implementation Agreement (DCIA), also known as MOU 2. That campaign bore results. Individual and joint efforts by many led to a vote in the House of Assembly that was closer than anyone predicted.
It’s clear that in the short period between the announcement and the vote, the tide was turning.
The volunteers who studied and spoke out against the deal did it for no other reason than their love of our land and the future of our children and grandchildren. Their motivation is as pure as it gets.
And they are not giving up after a contrived vote in the House of Assembly that the premier instigated without putting his deal to an independent review and without holding the referendum that he promised in order to get elected.
These Newfoundlanders and Labradorians include, for example, whomever took the time to create and circulate a citizen-led referendum. It can be found at referendumnl.ca; voting recently closed.
I am among those who believe there’s still a battle to be fought and a war against the deal to be won.
To continue the fight, today we’re launching a new Churchill Falls Fair Deal ad campaign: “Inspired By”. Each ad will highlight a person or group who inspired the point that we seek to illuminate. The first ad, attached, was inspired by Greg Roberts. It’s a thank you for his countless hours of study, numerous letters, submissions and posts helping us to better understand how tragic this deal is for our province.
Stayed tuned to Facebook and the Uncle Gnarley Blog to follow the ads as they are released.
As always, sincere thanks in advance for sharing these with family and friends, far and wide.
