The Liquor Cabinet

By The Bard of Duckworth

A single malt Scotch would tally Finance

A Port wine to medicate Health

Vodka will grapple with Justice

Perhaps a Dry Gin to ponder Education,

Certainly, a Crème de Menthe to preserve the Environment

A London Dock would moor Transportation

A Bourbon for the rigors of Natural Resources

Economic Development would demand Brandy for stimulation

And the administration of Social Services would require a Benedictine,

Rye whiskey would nourish Agriculture

A Black Rum to cure the Fisheries

And a Grand Marnier to posture as Premier,

These would be the constituents of the ideal Cabinet

And somewhere in the House

Would be a 40 ouncer of Screech

To inspire the Speaker,

Of course, a selection of external mixers

Would make themselves available

To assert various flavors to taste,

Regular MHA’s, when acknowledged, would BYOB

Beyond doubt, the Cabinet would be kept in the shed

Under lock and key

Hardly ever seen inside the House,

There would not be a drop of sober second thought in this regard

Remember this is not phantom money! This is resource revenue that represents support for public services such as schools, hospitals, and infrastructure.

What’s unfolding in the Quebec-NL MOU2 is not cooperation, not partnership, not “nation‑building,” and certainly not the energy vision that Prime Minister Mark Carney...
