BEST NEW YEAR – COMPLIMENTS OF THE BARD (AND ALL OF US)

BEST
NEW YEAR
To
all in NL spellbound stand:
Lang
may yer big lum reek.*
Long
life and warmth to hand,
Good
health, and joy at peak.
We’re
better blest than all the rest:
We’ve
freedom and fresh air –
We’ve
space, and room to quest.
Of
those, make greatest care.
Not
oppressed, perhaps ass-prest,
Bullets,
we seldom fear –
We’re
Royalty, it’s manifest,
So
have the best New Year.

*   “long may your chimney smoke” – an old
Scottish New Year greeting given with the symbolic gift of a lump of coal. With
the gift of a birch junk, the greeting could become popular in NL.

REMEMBERING BILL MARSHALL

Bill left public life shortly after the signing of the Atlantic Accord and became a member of the Court of Appeal until his retirement in 2003. During his time on the court he was involved in a number of successful appeals which overturned wrongful convictions, for which he was recognized by Innocence Canada. Bill had a special place in his heart for the underdog.

Churchill Falls Explainer (Coles Notes version)

If CFLCo is required to maximize its profit, then CFLCo should sell its electricity to the highest bidder(s) on the most advantageous terms available.

END OF THE UPPER CHURCHILL POWER CONTRACT: IMPROVING OUR BARGAINING POWER

This is the most important set of negotiations we have engaged in since the Atlantic Accord and Hibernia. Despite being a small jurisdiction we proved to be smart and nimble enough to negotiate good deals on both. They have stood the test of time and have resulted in billions of dollars in royalties and created an industry which represents over a quarter of our economy. Will we prove to be smart and nimble enough to do the same with the Upper Churchill?

  1. All the very Best to the entire Uncle Gnarley crowd in 2018, (contributors and readers).

Our collective thoughts and actions have contributed significantly to saving our province from (truly) evil forces of corruption, greed and deceit. It's far from over but we ARE well on the path to obtaining some justice and to correcting the path of economic ruin.

Let's fight "dam" hard in the coming days & weeks for a REAL Inquiry and a deep and probing Audit. If we can achieve this we can reclaim some of the power over major decisions and rid our governance of much corruption, "apparent" thievery, and some (horribly) misguided policies.

… "miles to go before we sleep".

Cheers to all and here's to a productive (and effective) 2018.
